On Sunday, October 19, 2008, thousands of individuals, organizations and corporations will unite in the spirit of caring and giving by participating in the largest and most visible fundraising event for AIDS in the southeast, AIDS Walk Atlanta. Their participation will make it possible for AID Atlanta and 9 other AIDS service organizations to continue working to stop the spread of HIV and transform the lives of those living with the disease.
AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run is a major fund raising activity making up 10% of AID Atlanta’s annual budget. AIDS Walk supports programs such as HIV primary health care, case management, HIV testing and counseling, and AID Atlanta’s education program which provides more than 80,000 prevention contacts annually.
The Atlanta metropolitan area has the 6th highest number of AIDS cases nationwide. More and more friends, neighbors, and co-workers are infected each year. These facts are disturbing but there is comfort in the fact that there are several organizations in the area that provide much needed care to those infected with HIV. AID Atlanta and other provider organizations need your support. With your help, we are confident we will meet and exceed the 2008 goal of engaging 16,000 participants and raising $1.250 million.
