SATURDAY Georgia’s Coalition Against Bullying |

To The Atlanta Community:
Georgia’s Coalition Against Bullying would like to invite you to a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, August 15, 2009 from 12:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 265 Peachtree Street, N.E., Atlanta, GA 30303. The Town Hall follows two days of exhilarating workshops during National Action Network’s Summer Conference and State Convention. The objective of the meeting is to allow our youth to share their experiences and viewpoints on bullying and learn how schools and communities can effectively address this issue.
As many of you know, bullying is an overlooked issue within the nation’s school systems, especially within large districts where administrators have continuously proven to have little empathy for the victims of bullies. On April 16, 2009, a young child by the name of Jaheem Herrera committed suicide after returning home from a Dekalb County elementary school where he was a repeated victim of bullying.
Jaheem’s death was not only a tragedy for the community, but a wake-up call for those who understand the seriousness of bullying and the adverse affect that it can have on our kids. We simply will not sit quietly and allow this reckless behavior to continue without a fight. Please join us at the Hyatt Regency as we focus on combating the issue of bullying within our schools and holding administrators accountable for their inaction when it occurs.
We look forward to your participation in the Town Hall Meeting and thank you for your unwavering support.
Sincerely,
Georgia’s Coalition Against Bullying
